I was there when they unearthed it. After 15 years of anticipation (I heard about it when I was a kid in the early 1990s), I have to say I was excited to be there, but was disappointed that they did a rush job in the ’50s with the construction. They had the know-how and technology to do it correctly, they just didn’t execute it well.
There was another time capsule buried with the car. It was a steel cylinder that was welded shut. Everything in it survived beautiful. When they opened it on stage, there was a pack of postcards written by citizens in 1957. It was bound by a rubberband. When they took the rubberband off, it shot off stage. I picked it up…it didn’t age at all. It still was elastic and soft. I know, cool story bro.
