There are a lot of reasons why the area remains abandoned. It was probably a bad location to begin with. It’s in New Orleans East, which is significant distance from other New Orleans tourist attractions. Not many people come to New Orleans to ride coasters anyway. Also, New Orleans East was totally flooded during Katrina and has never come back the way it was (it remains a high crime area). Potential developers have been scared off by the precarious position of the area. There have been talks about redeveloping it but they fell through. New Orleans has rebounded beautifully in the decade since Katrina, but some places like New Orleans East and the Lower 9th Ward still bear the scars.
