Saw a show once where this guy had one he wanted restored that he’d traded a 12 pack of beer for. It had been in a flood at one point, so totally submerged in sea water, plus it had been painted purple. The restoration guys were doubtful, but they took it on anyway, because, hey, it’s a Delorean. It looked OK on top, but once they got it in the air, they saw the true horror of the entire frame and undercarriage having rusted from exposure to sea water. On top of that, while sanding the paint off the body panels, they discovered it had been wrecked and repaired with bondo, which explained the paint. They ended up buying a donor body and stripping parts from the original to build a complete car. Guy was still upset they didn’t restore his original, but was happy to at least have a working car.
It made me very sad to see the original hauled away as scrap, purple, rusted, and humiliated. Sad end for such an iconic car.
