In the village where I grew up was a small local community building where the scouts/guides would go, summer play schemes would be based there etc. It was surrounded by a couple of playing fields, flanked by trees which led off into the woods, with bird hides and such.
Anyway, where the tree line starts at the far end of the football pitch, about 20ft in you could find the edge of the old swimming pool. It was apparently an old outdoor pool for locals in the 1930s but has been closed since the 50s. It was all overgrown so you couldn’t really get in.
But I was creeped out big time by it. There’s just something about picturing all those people having fun all that time ago, now probably all dead or at the end of their lives, and the pool is silent and forgotten…
