You’ll notice right at the top of the boiler, there is a sort of cementous cap, this is a cement asbestos mix. You can see the white on the side of it where it is crumbling. You can see this again running down the entire left corner of the boiler leading to a big pile of the stuff on the floor which has come loose and fallen off. Again you see more of the crumbling coating on the lower right corner.
A boiler of this age is almost 100% guaranteed to have asbestos in it somewhere. It is the perfect product for it’s application with the unfortunate side affect of not being very healthy. If left undisturbed, it is perfectly fine, but once it becomes friable (loose and with the ability to become airborne) it becomes a hazard. That room is not a place you want to start moving stuff around or disturbing any dust and ideally once you see the state of the asbestos covering on the boiler, you should be making your exit.
