Oh, I forgot my favorite story from there. I had another friend who was working there. He was way up in the attic, working on something construction related when he heard a girl crying and banging on metal. It was loud enough to be in the same room, but he knew that he only human in the entire building at that point. He didn’t even call out, didn’t page on his radio, just ran and left his tools behind. Once outside he verified everyone else’s location and they were nowhere close by (much less would pull a prank like that on him, for he was most beloved).
Turns out during a game of hide and seek gone horribly wrong, a little girl had climbed up to the attic and into the HVAC machine (this is as technical as I can get, big metal box, 6ft. tall, I saw it during the day on a different visit). It took awhile for people to notice her gone as this was a game with 30 or 40 kids. By the time they did notice her gone it had been hours (if it matters it was a hot day). They searched everywhere for days before the search was called off. Shortly thereafter the HVAC system starts having issues so they call in a tech. He found the little girl inside. She had found the best hiding spot and crawled in, but then couldn’t get out (don’t know why). My friend refused to work in that building ever again – and he was a big tough man, but a gentle giant. He swore up and down that he heard her crying and it broke his heart a little, 50 years after her death.
