Nope, there are a few different ways to get a permit in Sweden but the easiest by far is getting a hunting license (this can be done in a weekend and the paperwork will take a couple of months). Another way is to join a shooting club and be active for a year, this way you can own handguns as well and if you’re very active in the competition scene you can own semi or even fully automatic assault rifles etc. (only around 100 people have gotten than far though and they’re all ex military or ex police). Then ofc. as a police officer you get a gun license as well. The only way to own any gun you want though is to be a collector. For example if you have a big collection of let’s say Soviet era memorabilia you can get a permit to own an AK47 or whatever you want and as many as you want as long as you can justify your need for it in your collection, BUT you don’t get to shoot them with a collectors license so that’s a waste.
