Let’s not go overboard here. While this is true to a certain extent, it doesn’t really apply to castles. And no Wallonia isn’t that bad, real. Lome small,remote villages maybe.

2 main reasons to castle ruins: cost of maintenance and heating is absurd yes(low heating = increased moisture, jacking up maintenance requirements etc..) , but what gets them are inheritances and subsequent indivisions.
Not only can you not split one of those up, but the money being split among heirs isn’t quite (worth it) enough to run the thing.
