Thank you for so effectively clearing that up!
As an anthropologist I can’t help but thinking about how an area with some beautiful scenery, interesting history and great food, suffers from a great deal of poverty and talent drain. Much of my family stayed in Darien, but anyone that wanted more than what Darien has to offer left as quickly as possible. Although there are some mild indications this is changing (like the awesome bed and breakfast a couple blocks away from this house) I think it still remains true that most people who want to grow as individuals get out of Darien quickly, whether that’s somewhere close like Saint Simons Island or all the way across the country (my parents).
I recognize this isn’t a sub for the discussion of poverty and its effects, but it sure is weird to see a place that I visit frequently fetishized as abandoned and creepy (because in my experience homes like this are everywhere in Darien, and many of them are actually lived in, not abandoned).
Perhaps it would be interesting to consider as a broad trend on AbandonedPorn if the privileged individuals who take these photos are doing justice to the places they portray as abandoned. I’m inferring the privilege of most of the contributers to this sub based on the high quality of photos, access to internet, and time to go explore “empty” areas. I’m not trying to point fingers, I just feel that people who make media should think about how media is received (a tall order in today’s fast paced life).
