Oh nothing bad, just changed to a beef / venison farm because the markets changed. I do have a lot of nostalgia looking back at those times but it was quite hard work for my dad and gramps so I’m glad times have changed really, life is much easier now.
The farm has been in my family for 6 generations, since the victorian times when my ancestors came from england. There are still some old reminders around the place of the struggles and harsh reality of farming in the olden days, but also the romance of it. For example it used to take weeks to plough and sew a field in barley with a single blade plough and horses, and harvesting took a big team with sickles – my great-great grandmother cooking big meals for the hired workers. Now my dad can do the same in an afternoon with a modern tractor. Easier, more efficient, but not as romantic!
