I used to work there. Started in 98 when it was the original Geauga Lake owned by Prime Parks or something like that. Then we got bought by Six Flags and for a year remained the Lake. Things changed though, the fun had started to die from within the workers. The next year they went full Six Flags, things changed even more. The year after that we merged with Sea World. The weird thing is Six Flags kept a lot of the upper management on board. Obviously some animals were still there so we had the trainers. But food service, park services and warehouse kept a lot of their management. It was amazing considering Sea World in Ohio had operated at a loss for quite some time.
I worked there in food service until 2006. Seasonal manager. Had a lot of good times. October was the best, the haunted houses we always went through, and with the food trucks for October fest we didn’t really sell any food and could walk around eating. But things got very corporate once Cesar Fair took over. Again they brought in their people, instant joy kill. After that it was pretty inevitable, especially with Cedar Point so close. Remember Cedar Point was always our competition. It’s great that so many people have fond memories of the park. I know I always will. Such a shame for the kids, it was a great place to spend summer days and to work. Not many places hire young kids, it was awesome.
