God damn this pisses me off for some reason. It’s like saying a 747 has a VTOL model that just hasn’t been built yet.
It makes no fucking sense to be VTOL. The entire point of a ground effect vehicle is that the craft is so heavy that only by riding a cushion of squashed air against the ground can it achieve lift.
It’s such a retarded notion that I can’t even form an analogy to show how ill conceived and useless of a feature it would be.
The ONLY reason to have a VTOL craft is because you lack a runway. But the Bartini was designed to operate almost exclusively on the water, since it can’t fly more than a couple dozen feet above the ground. In what conceivable circumstance would you possibly not have enough water to land/take off from?
Ground effect vehicles gain nothing from vertical takeoff.
