Of course, modern MBTs are night and day compared to the 1940s era vehicles. But the Scorpion was just an IFV designed for heavily armed scouting in the era of the more recent generation MBTs. Its gun isn’t even meant to take on these beasts but make infantry duck or die with high explosive shells.
In fact, it took a lot of modifications for the Israelis to get the Sherman to give a decent punch in the first decade of the Cold War; even to the point of taking on tanks of later generation, like the T-55. But taking any Sherman into the battlefield is a desperate move with the hope of providing a heavy defense as an Infantry Fighting Vehicle. Most modern tank rounds are designed to go through post-Cold War era tanks, like the T-90. I don’t even want to imagine how much damage one will do to a WWII era tank.
